ABSTRACT

Academic studies and mass media have noted the increased predominance of rural communities around the world that currently serve as seasonal and permanent destinations (Abrams, Gosnell, Gill, & Klepeis, 2012; Dixon, Murray, & Gelatt, 2006; Emling, 2010; Krannich, Luloff, & Field, 2011; Moss, 2006; Sánchez & González, 2011). Migration to these places is, to a large extent, influenced by the desire to reside close to or surrounded by the natural and pristine environments found in such rural areas (Beyers & Nelson, 2000; Deller, Tsai, Marcouiller, & English, 2003; McGranahan, 1999; Shumway & Otterstrom, 2001). This phenomenon is referred to as amenity migration (Abrams et al., 2012; Moss, 2006).
