ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. An examination of Henri Fayol's actions as a manager highlights many misunderstandings, and helps better understand his thought. The chapter reviews several preconceived ideas about Fayol's doctrine that this confrontation with facts have shown to be fallacious. Fayol's world was one without conflict; in reality he fought many battles. One trace in his theory is the 'retirement of incompetent managers', as such an eviction would obviously be the result of some tension with a subordinate. For Fayol, the daily operating of the company was based on six systems: the technical system that produced goods, the commercial system that sold them, the financial system that ensured access to and remuneration of financing, the security system to protect the company from various hazards, the accounting system that recorded the material and monetary flows, and the management system that he deliberately distinguished from the five others.
