ABSTRACT

In Babe teens, he not only played recreational baseball but also played for "organized" teams such as the North Beach Outlaws, a sort of little league team. From 1910 through 1916, Babe played with a number of semipro clubs including those in Sonoma, Petaluma, and Sebastopol in California, and in Bandon, Oregon. From this scary and stark beginning, Rinaldo Paolinelli-better known as Babe Pinelli-would move from the sandlots in San Francisco to the major league diamonds both as player and umpire. Then, from 1928 through 1932 he was back in the minors, where he played with the Oakland and San Francisco teams in the Pacific Coast League. Although Babe died a number of years ago, his influence on me has remained great. The author admired and adored him, as did all of his grandchildren. He entertained us with innumerable baseball stories.
