ABSTRACT

Cultural consciousness is about conveying the values, belief systems, expectations, and modes of adaptation and norms of behavior, life roles, and life scripts of the culture with which the member is affiliated. When the Ministry of Education realized that in order to keep Bedouin youth coming to school, it would be necessary that the teachers and administration be culturally familiar, opportunities were opened for Bedouin men to become teachers and administrators. Themes in Sandplay images among the Bedouin the authors have worked with vary over a wide range of psychic content, from the collective issues and conflicts of transition, and changing role definitions, to deeply personal traumatic events, with the added elements of the unique complex social conflicts surrounding the personal. Sandplay therapy has proven to be an exemplary tool in helping to deal with the great challenges of people’s of the desert cultural crises.
