ABSTRACT
The key feature of community forestry that distinguishes it from a conventional profit-maximizing industrial forestry firm is democratic management. A key question for policy makers is whether democratic management can deliver output and jobs in the forestry sector. Research on cooperatives and worker-managed firms offers some insight into the possible structure and the potential for economic success of community forestry organizations.
