ABSTRACT
The chapters in this part focus on the uneasy intersection of stand-up comedy and race. Involved in the case studies are questions such as: What special latitude does the comic have in performing offensive material about race? What larger social discourses help us to understand how comics mitigate or intensify reaction to their offensive material? What are the possibilities for progressive social engagement between comic and audience?
