ABSTRACT

Research on representational processes has a critical place in attachment theory. Indeed, one of Bowlby’s key propositions was that the individual distills crucial aspects of lived experiences and represents them in the mind. Such representations are thought to largely account for the connections found between early experience and later individual adaptation.
