ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how parental aspirations are conditioned by personal life experience. Several interviewees specifically refer to the negative image associated with the Turkish-Belgian community and admit wishing for a different picture in the future for their children. As even an overview of the present work testifies to its richness, it clearly cannot elaborate on all its contributions in this limited space. This is why we chose to focus on four main issues: first, the variety of disciplines and methodological approaches; second, the complementary levels of analysis; third, the diversity of social and political contexts, and fourth, the identification of best practices and interventions. It is worth noting that most chapters could be used to illustrate all of these issues, but for the sake of brevity we will make use of only a few examples. Moreover, Polish students program has been reviewed in depth and streamlined, making it largely complementary with that of Flemish schools.
