ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a theoretical approach that is sensitive to issues of people's outlook to the world, their sense of expectation and their lived experience' as Graw & Schielke inspire scholars to do. Aspiration as a concept offers a useful framework to analyse the dreams and prospects of parents, while simultaneously framing their actual views about the education of their children. Long-term aspirations are broad wishes informed primarily by metaphysical and cultural norms and values, while short-term aspirations pertain to choices made in order to realize the long-term aspirations. L'Ecole des Etoiles is a member of Fedactio, a Turkish-Belgian association founded in Brussels. The school is known to be founded by people inspired by the Hizmet Movement, which is a voluntary, faith-inspired, transnational civil society movement founded on the principles and ideas of Fethullah Gulen, a renowned Turkish-Muslim preacher and scholar. L'Ecole des Etoiles is the only French school founded with the support of those inspired people.
