ABSTRACT

Different methods of teaching children to read come into and go out of fashion, but the best teaching is done when teachers know their children, informed by their observations of them, and really tune into what the child needs in terms of active adult help and support. Children take dance ideas and use them to choreograph their own dances. People would take picnics, and adults and older children would join in and have a go at the dances. Children learn best about dance if they learn with adults who dance with them. Captions can also be helpful having one line of the poetry card on a strip of card helps children to pick out the words. Children will often seek out different aspects to focus on as they engage spontaneously with these play props. Sets of alphabets give other children great satisfaction, and give them opportunities to blend and segment words.
