ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes a model of leadership through the stories of an executive's career and a leadership consultant's experiences, along with the research insights of a distinguished academic. It explains the nine elements of skill acquisition incorporated into the J-Curve Leadership Model. Mastery of leadership is achievable by everyone. It's not about ability, where some people have it, and others do not. It's about the journey. The leadership lessons started with four values: courage, integrity, speaking, and future-orientation. Leaders shift their focus from the "work of delivery" onto the "people who deliver". Their attention is on common goals and their influence occurs in groups. Lastly, and most importantly, a person must stop doing all those things that are road blocks in their leadership journey. This is largely about self-behavior over which a person has considerable control.
