ABSTRACT

An ancient villa called as Villa Medicea near the city of Naples, in a marginal area of the municipality of Ottaviano, has been recently confiscated by the Organized Criminality Board and destined to host the offices of the Regional Park Authority of the Vesuvius district. The question for the parks that are located not in the center of the city but on its surroundings can be faced from two different points of view such as green lungs, and peri-urban zones. One of the proposals, aimed at promoting the little park as a didactic green area, had the idea of using the green area as lungs for the metropolitan area of Naples, which surrounds the villa and its external places and produces atmospheric and acoustic pollution, thus, regenerating this peri-urban zone. A neglected peri-urban area, le Jardines de la Menara, hosts an ancient pavilion, a water basin, and a large vegetation zone, mainly with olive and palm trees.
