ABSTRACT

Most of the literature on the issue discussed and concluded that the causes for the prevailing distress were capitalist model of economic development inherited from colonial past, agrarian transformation, neo-liberal policies adopted by the state and changing political conjunction and agrarian political economy of the country (Vasavi 2012). This has resulted in marginalization of agrarian sector of the state as well as hitting the economy of farmers, especially of marginal and small and agricultural labourers, very hard. Therefore, in such a situation, it is of paramount importance to probe the relevant literature with the objective to explore origin and causes of agrarian crisis, agriculture credit, indebtedness and causes, consequences and manifestations of agrarian distress in the form of agrarian suicides.
