ABSTRACT

Martian Research In the preceding chapters you have read how teachers in social studies, language arts, physics and math have presented to their students a variety of authentic tasks to analyze and from which to draw their own conclusions. In the case of one teacher, Tim Obergefell in Sandusky, OH, we have seen how students went out on their own into the community to fi nd problems and fi gure out reasonable solutions. They were conducting original research involved in community improvement, creating their own pathways toward solutions as they met with leaders across town.
