ABSTRACT

This chapter describes communicate with parents more effectively by focusing on what you do know, rather than harping on situations where you both weren't present. The parents may arrive with great confidence because their child, told them the truth, but once you reduce their knowledge base by identifying the fact that neither of they were there, it can soften the dialogue a great deal. If the parents were very belligerent, then would shift the conversation to something that did know about. Dealing with Difficult Parents, a teacher may feel that their class is out of control, and it has evolved to the point of needing to contact parents. At that point, take a look at their class list and ask if the nicest student in the class is out of control. This helps teachers to learn which parents to call when the class is out of control. These show teachers how to take advantage of the "peak of ready" strategy.
