ABSTRACT

The productivity and performance are used interchangeably, there are many definitions of productivity but it is often simply defined as the 'ratio of output to input'. The productivity equation is also affected by the proportion of property to employee costs in a business. The World Green Building Council published a framework for assessing the impact of the design and operation of the office on health, well-being and productivity. Business performance is dependent not only upon the office design but also is affected by the workforce's capability, market demand, brand, advertising, legacy, investment and organisational factors. Despite the continuous ignoring of the impact of office design on productivity, there is abundant evidence to suggest a clear relationship. With so much evidence published, it is a wonder that the relationship between office design and productivity is so often ignored and the business case for new projects is based on space and costs savings alone.
