ABSTRACT

The conference has provided a summary of past experiences with agricultural policy, perspectives from these experiences, and suggestions for modifications of current policies and for the design of future policy for U.S. agriculture. The suggestions for agricultural policy change have been somewhat more limited than might have been anticipated from such a conference. However, perhaps there is something to be learned from this hesitancy to depart substantially from the current U. S. agricultural policy design. Rather than radical change, the discussion has focused more on recommendations for improving the existing policy design.
