ABSTRACT

The quotations above give different answers to the question of why education is important. The OECD (OECD 2012b) publication as well as the EU (2009) publication are both expressive of education as an economic investment leading to economic gains, even if the latter also points to education as a means to reach social cohesion and personal fulfilment. The UNESCO (2011) publication is instead expressive of education as a human right.
