ABSTRACT

Hero makers realize that at the end of a day, week, semester, or school year, they will not remain completely undefeated, so it is important to have had honor in the way they played the game of their leadership. Hero makers realize that their first "at-bat" is their only first at-bat. They still have the opportunity to make home runs for the rest of their career, but they will not again have an opportunity to make a home run on their first at-bat. They know that their earlier grades from board members will have much more of an impact on their leadership tenure grade, because they weigh-in more significantly. And even though board members tend to focus on the here and how, those things that superintendents do later on will have not as big of an impact on their overall job-performance grade, as they try to catch up.
