ABSTRACT

This chapter explains some practical strategies for dealing with personalities, and extended-length Special Feature goes much further for those interested in the theory and psychological approaches that will help superintendents with their boards, and everyone else for that matter. It reviews the information about the theory that will be covered in our Special Feature: Board Personalities and the Process Communication Model. Approximately 40 years of developing theory derived from the field of clinical psychology provides a formula of how personality can be understood so that people can better connect with one other. Hero makers understand the importance of building and encouraging self-efficacy in their board members, because once board members have a positive belief that through hard work and earned effort they can make a difference, they are more apt to take on hard work (board-level responsibilities) and put forth an earned effort not to micromanage.
