ABSTRACT

Asian culture has a long history, and so does Confucianism. Confucianism is a cultural as well as a spiritual heritage in East Asian countries that has been developed, expanded, and localised over the last 2500 years. While Confucian thought was adopted as an official orthodoxy by the West Han Dynasty (206 BC-23 AD), it did not really flourish until its revival during the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1127-1279). Up to that point, Confucianism remained one of many political philosophies partially applied during several periods of Chinese history (Cauquelin, Lim and Mayer-Konig 1998).
