ABSTRACT

Geopolitics is a term that often evokes strong emotions and misunderstanding. The problem lies not with the term itself, but rather its historic association with Nazi Germany and the belief that somehow geopolitics was applied as an aid to world domination and to justify inhuman acts. However, in recent years, there has been a reintroduction of the term in pronouncements from the United States Government. Geopolitics is a perfectly legitimate and useful word with explicit meaning and simply refers to geographic factors that lie behind political decisions.
