ABSTRACT

Most books or articles on group process and development are intended to demonstrate various successful ways through which the authors of the material have handled their small groups. It has been our experience, and very likely every other group leader's experience, that not all groups have successful learning outcomes. If it were true that all groups were successful the rates of failure, in school, mental hospital, and in everyday personal encounter would not be as extensive as we know them to be. This section is intended to convey some understandings about why small learning groups often fail.
