ABSTRACT
Cognition and communication have influenced the theoretical direction of some ethnomusicologists. The prominence of these areas for scientific research explains the prevalence of certain concepts and predilections in our discipline even if we cannot point to a significant body of contributions from these perspectives for ethnomusicology.
