ABSTRACT
Most of the techniques for editing in newspapers and magazines apply as well to news on radio and television. (See Figure 14-1.) Those responsible for news copy for any medium must have good news judgment, a feeling for the audience and the ability to handle the language. But broadcast writers and editors have to be more concise and also make their words work with audio and video. Some of the requirements for broadcast news writing include:
Broadcast news should be written and edited so newscasters can read it con versationally so it sounds natural to the listeners. Broadcast news must be so simple that listeners can immediately grasp its meaning. The language must be so forceful that even casual listeners will feel compelled to give the story their full attention.
