ABSTRACT

This chapter draws together several diverse movements. They include the New Age Movement, the self-help movement and twelve-step programs, feminist Wicca, the Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, and religion on the Internet. The self-help movement and twelve-step programs have become an accepted feature of the American landscape. Others are controversial. The groups and movements reviewed in this chapter help demonstrate the expanding diversity of religion in the United States. The controversy surrounding some of them illustrates the dissention that may come with that diversity.
