For this and other violations, the four Schechter brothers received jail sentences and were fined $7,425. Before the Schechter case was over, the president faced a major constitutional crisis, the Supreme Court stopped challenging the New Deal, and antigovernment conservatives were armed with weapons that even today could cripple the administrative apparatus of the federal government.
