Corn and Villages

The Northeast is a broad region of lakes and forests that was home to many tribes of farmer/hunters, including some very complex societies. The primary agricultural crops were corn, beans, and squash (the “Three Sisters”) along with sunflowers. Groups living in the northern part of the Northeast and around the Great Lakes depended less on agriculture and more on hunting, fishing, and gathering, and groups living in the far Northeast never adopted farming at all.
