ABSTRACT

Every year, new interest groups form, and some disband. In 2004, many election-oriented groups formed. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ran ads attacking John Kerry’s record in Vietnam, while Americans Coming Together (ACT) sent people door to door to register Democratic voters in swing states. In 2005,ACT disbanded, and conservatives formed the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration, which supported the appointment of judges who would oppose same-sex marriage and abortion and would allow for more public accommodation of religion in public life. In 2007, former Washington Redskin Ray Schoenke and real estate developer John Rosenthal formed the American Hunter and Shooters Association, which formed as an alternative to the NRA. In the fall of 2007, after a summer of record airline flight delays and lost luggage, one frequent flier founded the Coalition for an Airline Passengers Bill of Rights.
