ABSTRACT

Color is freely available in online journalism and is a basic design consideration for World Wide Web pages. But, color remains an added expense in print production, not just because of inking but because images have to go through a process of separation, of pulling out the layers of the basic colors yellow, red, blue, plus an intensifying black, to be replicated in the printing process. The light that comes to us from the sun is colorless to our eyes until it passes through a prism or is reflected from a surface. When we say that an apple is red, we are in fact reporting that all light waves except red are absorbed; the red light reflected by the peel is the color we perceive. Colors are also linked to coolness and warmth. North American culture treats the blues and greens of the spectrum as cool, and reds and oranges as warm.
