Furthermore, we believe that one can follow a systematic approach to thinking through ethical decisions and judgments by following steps in a process for developing arguments. These steps suggest that we look at the following kinds of issues that usually present themselves:

■ The facts in the case. ■ The values relevant to this situation and these people. ■ The actions (decisions) to follow in this case.
