ABSTRACT

One thing video speakers need is a vivid imagination. In video speaking, the audience you want to address exists in your imagination. When recording, a little red light on a small machine is the only audience you see. The real audience for your speech is in your mind. Speakers are often advised to strike a casual or conversational style in video delivery because we often imagine the video audience as sitting in a living room at home. Television is a notoriously casual or cool medium, but that does not always mean a video recording will be viewed in casual circumstances. Video can be watched in a variety of contexts: on a computer screen while sitting on an airplane, on a TV while lying in bed, or at a meeting in an auditorium with five hundred other people. When you imagine your audience in a video presentation, try to take into account who will watch and under what circumstances.
