Television news commentator Tim Russert was known for many things. He was a respected journalist, a tenacious reporter, a challenging interviewer, and the well-regarded moderator of a popular Sunday morning talk show, Meet the Press. But one thing not widely known was that he had coronary artery disease (CAD) , a disease caused by plaque —a composite made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances-that builds up in the arteries ( National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2008b ).
