ABSTRACT

Eddie is a 28-year-old single man who began smoking when he was 13 years old. He wanted to look mature like his older brother, who also began smoking as a teenager.

Eddie now smokes 20 to 30 cigarettes a day. He calls himself a “social smoker” because he smokes with his friends either after work or at social events. Recently he met Sarah, someone whose company he really enjoys. Sarah does not smoke. In fact, she detests the smell of cigarettes. After months of encouragement from Sarah, Eddie decided to stop smoking. On New Year’s Day, Eddie threw away all the cigarette packs in his home and car.
