ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the neurobiological basis of the attachment system. The chapter begins by reviewing the neural underpinnings of the attachment system. This is followed by a discussion of how disruptions within the neural circuitry mediating attachment might interact with the neurobiology of the symptoms and social cognitive deficits of psychosis. Finally, we present the therapeutic implications of the neurobiological interconnections between disturbances of the attachment system and the phenomenology of ‘schizophrenia’.
