ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reveals that the ability to create conditions for arbitrage is an important resource of a company, and in some situations it is a vital factor for success of the business. It explores the correlations between the ability to create conditions for arbitrage and insoluble relationships with authorities. The book presents 100 examples, in the form of case studies, some of which are described in detail while others are presented in outline. The case study method is widely adopted, and has a particular significance in this investigation because it offers the opportunity to study the phenomenon of arbitrage in its economic, geographic and social context. These cases were designed on the basis of analysis of personal experience, corporate and analytical reports and analysis of the mass media.
