In romantic comedy, laughter is the result not of the expressing of emotion, but of the responding to the emotion. The basic structure of the romantic comedy film is made up of four acts. First, the story begins with the proto-lovers meeting. The second type of romantic comedy highlights mismatched lovers. The third type of romantic comedy is the sort of story where the proto-lovers do not become physical lovers. Finally to the resolution that transforms the proto-lovers into lovers who are then united in time for the end credits.
