ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the concept of genocide and its history, followed by an analysis of the reasons why human groups engage in mutual mass murders. It tries to deal with ways to analyze mass atrocity crimes, including genocides and politicides, both quantitatively and qualitatively. It offers some possible ways of dealing with the three main stages of development of mass murders: prevention, dealing with current crises when prevention has failed, and reconstructing traumatized societies after events of mass murder and genocide.
