ABSTRACT

This chapter develops a framework to help identify these essential elements in terms of three core areas that impact the success of wellbeing initiatives: (1) having valid content and a holistic focus of the initiatives, (2) considering contextual factors of the initiatives, and (3) incorporating successful program development and implementation processes. It examines some of the contextual issues that may be critical to workplace wellbeing initiatives, such as involving and engaging employees in the initiatives, tailoring the programs to meet individual and organizational needs, ensuring flexibility of the initiatives to meet needs, and emphasizing key training components of goal setting. Using models of intervention development, the chapter discusses the process of developing and implementing initiatives that is critical to intervention success. The chapter emphasizes the core element of respect in extending current models of healthy workplaces, as it can be seen as a unifying theme underlying all components in the model.
