ABSTRACT

This chapter defines postmodernism and some of its thinkers within the context of distinguishing it from modernity, Enlightenment philosophy, and the representational mode of thinking characteristic of Enlightenment thought. What postmodern thinkers intend to achieve by subverting representational thinking is examined. Some features of postmodern thought are elucidated. This discussion sets the stage for a review of the adoption of the non-method of deconstruction by two contemporary Indian thinkers.
