ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will provide an overview of anger and aggression in youth and present the advantages and challenges of group work with this population. A contextual social-cognitive model will serve as the framework for group therapy interventions with aggressive children. Relevant evidencebased programs and their outcomes will be noted, including the Coping Power program. The structure, key intervention goals, and objectives of Coping Power will be provided. Concerns about group interventions with aggressive children with a special emphasis on deviant peer effects will be discussed, along with potential methods for addressing these concerns. Finally, recommendations for group therapists working with this population will be provided.
