ABSTRACT

On 15 January 2014, I had the privilege of sharing a platform with Ailsa McKay for a seminar and round-table discussion at the Scottish Parliament, hosted by Jim Eadie, Member of the Scottish Parliament. Ailsa’s was the voice of Citizen’s Basic Income (CBI) in Scotland until her untimely death. She spoke first, creating a vision of what a CBI could do to transform our society. She spoke inspiringly and with passion, drawing on the philosophical and political arguments about why we should explore the concept of, and eventually implement, a CBI in Scotland. I followed up with the more mundane, but equally necessary, facts and figures to demonstrate the economic feasibility of a CBI scheme.
