ABSTRACT

In the studio world, creative and development executives let agents know on a continuum what their studios are looking for to fill the current desires of their development slates and also when there is a glut of a particular type of project. In the foreign market, sales agents serve the same purpose. A producer may be talented as creative producer, a physical producer, or both, but writer/producers are rare. Consequently, most producers rely on collaborating with screenwriters to develop material that can hopefully get made into films. Writers often get paid in the development stage and producers rarely get anything unless and until the picture is made. The point is that the goal as screenwriters is to get the scripts made into films. For the writer in today's world, having realistic expectations, being malleable and collaborative, and understanding the fiscal realities of the global marketplace are essential keys to success.
