ABSTRACT

Parts of speech are only a fraction of the grammar picture. Once the students have the basics down with the different parts of speech, then they can start creating and crafting some miraculous sentences. Playing with formal and informal sentences gives students the chance to explore several spaces in which they could potentially see and use different types of sentences and explore where formal and informal writing is indeed appropriate. Code switching has been a distinct topic of conversation that goes back as far as the 1960s when schools were de-segregated and different language dialects were being spoken within the classroom. In terms of the Triple E Framework, the online tool Lino (en.linoit.com) helps to scaffold the students into other lessons and activities done later on in the year and with other grammar concepts as well. It is time to start thinking about how teachers can expand their students' vocabulary in a digital world.
