ABSTRACT

Usually coaches are fearful of moving too far in the direction of assimilating psychology/psychotherapeutic practices into coaching. There is a field for this, however, and it is known as “coaching psychology.” People who practice in this field are called “coaching psychologists.” Because of their familiarity with research literature on a multitude of subjects, coaching psychologists can find support for something they likely already do and/or they can find ideas for augmenting their coaching practice with the results of good research in psychology. This chapter briefly addresses assimilating psychology into coaching.
