The “Reel” America
It is Wednesday, the day of the week when movie theaters across Paris release their latest films. Several of these films will be American. On August 6, 2014, for example, Lucy, The Nut Job, Neighbors, and Young Ones opened on the big screens of Paris. The previous Wednesday Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, New York Melody, and Earth to Echo had debuted. Films produced elsewhere were also available for Parisian moviegoers, including French, Australian, Franco-Indian, and Italian productions. Nevertheless, by the end of the calendar year it would be a near certainty that the top-grossing films in Paris and across France would be products of Hollywood’s dream industry.
