In all sorts of unexpected ways, they change the lives of the next generation, and cast a shadow over the lives of men and women who were not even born during the Second World War. However hard the survivors, or their brothers, sisters, husbands and wives, tried to give their children a normal upbringing in a new country, their children’s lives, and perhaps even their grandchildren’s lives, are lived out in the shadow of what the Nazis did to their forebears.
