ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how a range of applications were integrated into a tactical inquiry approach to support students' physical, cognitive, social, and affective learning. It suggests that technology integration can support students' basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness. The apps created new opportunities to enhance all students' learning. The use of more than one app within lessons and over the course of the unit catered for each of the unit learning goals and acted to maintain students' interest in learning and group work. The apps also changed the way students interacted with one another. Similar to social networking sites, Edmodo enabled teams to post resources or videos that they had created and then interact with each other and different teams. The chapter concludes by suggesting that teachers should engage with an ongoing process of diagnosing, responding and evaluating, where apps can be used to assist and strengthen a teacher's ability to design effective learning experiences.
