ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Lynne's experiences as a physical educator, provides suggestions for improving the program from psychological and health communication perspectives, and offers recommendations for implementation. Lynne wanted to help physical education students increase their rate of healthy decision making through the creation of student public service announcements (PSAs). Guided by student interest and iPad use, two assignments focused on motor skill assessment, and the PSAs were developed and viewed by a broad audience. Students welcomed the integration of iPads into physical education classes and naturally began to assume roles similar to those in a Sport Education model. The Keynote and GarageBand apps provided an avenue to produce an example that displayed all of the critical elements of the given skill. Health messaging that uses bold words that empower the individual to build self-efficacy and autonomy are particularly important during adolescence.
