ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the 8th World Congress on Science and Football, Copenhagen 2015 and focuses on the human and social sciences. It addresses historical developments and current scientific focus areas of football and soccer. The book discusses females and males and addressing different football codes, European soccer, but also Gaelic and American football. It illustrates how soccer physical activity interventions can elicit flow experiences and that these flow experiences seem to be important for long-term adherence to regular physical activity. The book investigates the coaching behaviors and practice activities of coaches from various football codes at different playing levels and provides recommendations for coaching practice. It also investigates soccer players in three European countries and highlights the importance. The book presents a large spectrum of research from sociological, historical and psychological perspectives with regard to football.
